Off the coast of Yemen, a boat of 35 fishermen recently found a 280-pound hunk of ambergris. Ambergris is just a fancy term for vomit from the Sperm Whale, but it has a unique value in that it is necessary to sustain perfume scents. It is also incredibly rare to find and has been nicknamed “treasure of the sea”. As a result of its practicality and its scarcity, this 280-pound hunk found floating in Yemen could be sold for an insane $1.5 million.

These lucky fishermen naturally went and cashed in, selling the ambergris to a buyer in the United Arab Emirates and splitting the winnings equally. Most of the fishermen reportedly used their share to buy some very important things, including cars and homes. It is comical to think that these fishermen’s lives were changed forever all thanks to a hunk of whale vomit, but this apparently is not the first time, as ambergris is extremely sought after.
